HOME|BODY
Location: Frankie G. Weems Gallery in Gaddy-Hamrick Art Center
The Frankie G. Weems Gallery at Meredith College features the work of Nathan Grimes. Born in the Great Smoky Mountains and raised in the swamps of the Florida panhandle, Nathan is an interdisciplinary artist based in Holly Springs, North Carolina. His creative practice explores visual art, poetry, music, engineering, and objects from the dumpster. Recently, Grimes’ narrative songwriting, sound experiments, and found object collections have erupted into the realm of visual art.
At its core, the exhibition “HOME | BODY” is a collection of psychophysiological self-portraits of coping with the effects of the artist’s chronic traumatic childhood environment. These works serve as a map – an abstraction of complex feelings and difficult moments of the former self extracted from lived experience, suspended in time, and viewed from a safe distance.
“HOME | BODY” is on exhibition from September 5th – October 1st, 2023, at the Frankie G. Weems Gallery at Meredith College. An opening reception and gallery talk will take place on September 14th from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, with the gallery talk from 5:30 – 6:30 pm in room 137 at the Gaddy-Hamrick Art Center. Current hours at Frankie G. Weems Gallery are Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday, 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
