Press Release

Join us for “Thresholds” and experience an evocative journey through the tactile, introspective worlds of Emerging Artists in Residence Sara Grace Lane, Kasey Vandenboom, and Marty Rogers.

“Thresholds” speaks to the shared themes of transition, identity, and rootedness, offering visitors a chance to reflect on the many stages of growth, uncertainty, introspection, and self-expression that we all go through in life. Through the use of experimental painting techniques, Sara Grace Lane’s painting series acts as a visual diary documenting the disillusionment and romanticization that many people experience in their twenties. Blending sculptural processes such as ceramics and welding with fibers, Kasey Vandenboom explores the destruction and reinvention of identity, highlighting how different versions of identity coexist and contradict one another. Marty Rogers uses fibers, found objects, and personal ephemera to document and preserve both collective and personal memories, weaving a nostalgic web of vulnerable, reflective work. Through their distinct yet overlapping perspectives, Sara Grace, Kasey, and Marty invite viewers to consider what it means to stand at the precipice of change, to confront both anxiety and joy, and to embrace change and the unknown.

“Thresholds” will be held in the first-floor corridors of Gaddy-Hamrick Arts Center. The “Thresholds” exhibition and gallery talk are free and open to the public.
